Our American Discourse, Ep. 1: The Affordable Housing Crisis
I'm excited to announce my new podcast, "Our American Discourse," a series of biweekly conversations with prominent scholars!Great knowledge need not whither on the academic vine. We bring you the smartest minds from the University of Southern California and beyond, wrestling with the defining challenges of our time. In their research, we find wisdom. In their voice, hope.Sponsored by the Bedrosian Center on Governance and the Public Enterprise, "Our American Discourse" reminds us that we’re never too different to learn from each other, nor too divided to find common ground. You can subscribe on Google Play, iTunes, or Soundcloud, or you can just listen to the first episode by clicking the orange arrow in the Soundcloud player right here...[soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/playlists/298186050" params="auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true" width="100%" height="450" iframe="true" /]Throughout the country, Americans are moving into the cities, and construction isn’t keeping up. Rents are rising faster than incomes. Housing costs are eating away an increasing share of the average family’s budget. Without sufficient renewal, the existing housing stock is aging, and the quality is declining. Affordability has reached crisis levels. In this episode, we confront the crisis with Raphael W. Bostic.Professor Bostic holds the Judith and John Bedrosian Chair in Governance and the Public Enterprise in the Sol Price School of Public Policy at USC, where he is also the Chair of the Department of Governance, Management, and the Policy Process. From 2009 to 2012, he served as the Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.=========="Our American Discourse" is produced by Aubrey Hicks, Jonathan Schwartz, and myself, and mixed by Corey Hedden.
