Fear Not: The Private Sector Will Take Care of It All

At his satirical best... -- AWO

Sadly, those tax-and-spend, bleeding-heart liberals continue to play Robin Hood and take from the rich and give to the poor. This is certainly not the real American way.

Our country has a long and proud tradition of charity. The feds should stand aside and let the Church and other charitable institutions look after the problems of the less fortunate.

We should all be proud of the Republican House majority who defend our tax dollars from being used frivolously.

A little over a month ago, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan released the House Republicans' first round of proposed budget cuts. They amounted to a paltry $32 billion.

The Appropriations Committee released the specific cuts that House Republicans are proposing to get below Ryan’s cap. Of course, the cuts consist of reductions to traditional GOP "bogeymen" like the National Endowment for the Arts and Amtrak. After all, real Americans don't care about the Arts, and they drive wherever they go and don't need trains.

I'm proud of the House Republicans who insist on cutting programs that affect women and their children. Only the socialist, tax-and-spend Democrats wish to involve the federal government in matters never mentioned in our Constitution.

The Republicans are committed to cut the following frivolous and unneeded expenditures:

  • $758 million from the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), a program that provides food assistance to low-income women and their infants. Surely the private sector would step into the void if a program like this were really needed.
  • $210 million from Maternal and Child Health Block Grants, a program that provides access to health care for low-income pregnant women, mothers, and their children. Surely the private sector would step into the void if a program like this were really needed.
  • $27 million from the Poison Control Center. Poisoning disproportionately affects children. We need to hold parents responsible for this and not involve the federal government in it. Surely the private sector would step into the void if a program like this were really needed.
  • $1.1 billion from community health centers. Almost 1/3 of community health center patients are children. Surely the private sector would step into the void if a program like this were really needed.

Of course, in the grand scheme of deficit reduction, these cuts will do very little or absolutely nothing.

These cuts total ~$2.1 billion, the cost of maintaining two carrier battle groups and their aircraft. We need these weapons to protect our country, something the Democrats have never understood.

The "sore loser" Democrats claim that the Republicans are threatening to undermine Social Security, while defending $20 billion in government giveaways to oil companies that are raking in record profits. No reasonable person will take the position that the oil companies don't need the money.

While Japan copes with the massive destruction of the recent tsunami, the GOP has wisely proposed cutting $126 million from the National Weather Service and $454 million from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, including the agencies that successfully warned Hawaii and the West Coast about the tsunami.

I'm so proud of the Republicans who appear to be steering our country into the status of a Third World country.
